Welcome to Ball State University’s
Student Education Association
The Student Education Association is an organization that supplements education programs with professional development opportunities for pre-service teachers. It helps build professional networking in the field through both state and national affiliation. With your membership, you will become a member of the local chapter, the state chapter (ISEA), and the national chapter (NEA). You will receive the following benefits with your membership: up to one million dollars in liability coverage for your protection while you're in the classroom; ISTA and NEA publications (ISTA Advocate, NEA Today, and Tomorrow's Teacher); a statewide student newsletter (The Viewpoint); an option to be included in a Senior Directory which puts your name and credentials in direct contact with superintendents throughout Indiana; and during your first years as a teacher you will receive rebates of $20 on NEA and $25 on ISTA memberships for each year that you were a member of SEA. There are many other benefits associated with SEA and can be found online at www.nea.org.
To become a member of SEA, you must be a college student and pay a $40 membership fee. The $40 covers a full year membership, September 1 to August 31. In addition to the monetary commitment, your involvement in the group is encouraged. You can be involved in many different events with SEA including but not limited to: committees, professional development meetings, a statewide fall leadership conference, BSU homecoming, Read Across America, American Education Week, and a myriad of other education events including A Better Way and Outreach to Teach.
If you have any questions about memberships or the organization in general, please email us. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming meetings!
